Following the traditional slipware method, potter Juba Tenshin creates functional and beautiful ceramics from his home-studio in the quiet mountainside of Kobe, Japan.
Every piece is hand-formed, not cast resulting in a one-of-a-kind shape. To finish, patterns are formed from liquid mud “slip” that is poured onto the surface or combed through with pine needles collected from Juba’s backyard.
Rice straws and chestnut husks are some of the ingredients repurposed onsite to create ash glaze which adds a smooth layer on some of his pieces.
Chariots on Fire exclusively represents Juba Tenshin in the USA.
