Chariots on Fire opened its own shop in the SoMa neighborhood of San Francisco in 2006. The shop was located on the ground floor of an industrial space that was also home to Tamotsu Yagi Design. Yagi, a passionate Jean Prouvé collector, graciously allowed us to use select pieces from his collection to display our wares. The furniture was a exciting starting point for us and shaped many of our styling choices. We aimed to approach this space as curators rather than shop owners, creating a space where both men and women would enjoy shopping and browsing. Whilst creating a distinct environment for Chariots on Fire, our first priority was to provide a backdrop for the collections rather than having design and display elements take over the product. Our display solution for the jewelry – stacks of white paper – proved to be a wonderful way to create dimension, depth and present each piece as its own story– on its own pedestal. We had a wonderful time sourcing the paper by visiting some of our printers' facilities and asking for their extras. We're proud to have found a totally recycled, reused and cost-effective design solution. We closed our San Francisco shop in 2009 and moved our collection online.
