THE SCULPTURAL NARRATIVE
“Evoking a raw, celestial mass suspended in space, this monumental Untitled objet grounds a powerful sculptural rhythm into a physical, architectural presence. From his atelier in Japan’s lush hillsides, Tenshin Juba works in rhythm with nature, creating commanding, abstract forms through ash glaze, clay, stone, and fire. Each hand-sculpted piece reflects the profound friction between earth and sky, feeling both ancient and newly discovered.
Juba’s practice is deeply connected to his environment, utilizing local clay and traditional wood-fired techniques to achieve remarkable structural scale. His work involves a punishing seven-day firing process at 2336°F (1280°C), orchestrating an elemental metamorphosis of earthen minerals that yields rich, fluid surfaces and stone-like finishes through the traditional ‘ichi-haze’ technique.
— This Untitled work brings a versatile, monumental presence suitable for grand interiors. For more on the artist's process, read the full story in the Chariots on Fire Journal.”
