THE SCULPTURAL NARRATIVE
“Wakusei — literally ‘wandering star,’ the Japanese word for planet — evokes the movement and mystery of celestial bodies. The Jardinière series introduces a monumental, functional vessel form to the outer orbit collection, grounding the cosmic rhythm into a physical, architectural presence. From his atelier in Japan’s lush hillsides, Tenshin Juba works in rhythm with nature, creating monumental forms through ash glaze, clay, stone, and fire. Each sculptural object reflects the profound friction between earth and sky, feeling both ancient and newly discovered.

Juba’s practice is deeply connected to his environment, utilizing local clay, stones, and wood-fired techniques to create monumental forms. His work involves a seven-day firing process at 2336°F (1280°C), resulting in rich textures, from glassy pools of silica to polished metallic hues in platinum and inky black.

— The Wakusei Jardinière No. 04 brings versatile, monumental presence suitable for both grand interiors or garden spaces. For more on the artist's process, read the full story in the Chariots on Fire Journal.”
