ICONIC BLACK ZINNIA FLOWERS Includes "Makoto Kagoshima Ceramics” Book

$999.00

One-of-a-kind ceramic plate by Makoto Kagoshima, including the Makoto Kagoshima Ceramics book—designed and published by Chariots on Fire.

The Invitation That Launched Everything
In 2010, one earth-toned floral plate captivated art director Ritsuko Yagi—sparking an invitation and a spontaneous trip to Makoto Kagoshima’s Fukuoka atelier. There, she asked him directly: Would you present your first US solo exhibition at my gallery Chariots on Fire in Venice, California, commissioned by me? He answered with a resounding yes—what would become a 17‑year legacy. That partnership gave rise to our Makoto Kagoshima Ceramics book, designed and published by Chariots on Fire as an intimate archive of our curated selection from his largest collection to date at the time of publication.

11 commissioned exhibitions, carefully selected and uniquely presented, each with its own story:
2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, when an Offsite dual exhibition of his one‑of‑a‑kind ceramics coincided with the launch of the Makoto Kagoshima × Chariots on Fire × Christopher Farr rug collection. That success led directly to the Makoto Kagoshima × Chariots on Fire × Christopher Farr textile and wallpaper collection. The next iteration of Makoto Kagoshima × Chariots on Fire × Christopher Farr arrives in 2027.

“What I create for Chariots embodies Los Angeles,” says Kagoshima. The gallerist who discovered his work and brought him to Los Angeles for his first US exhibition proudly carries that provenance forward—provenance that places your collection at the heart of his origin story with Chariots on Fire.
