THE SCULPTURAL NARRATIVE
“Guided by ancient slipware traditions, alchemist-potter Tenshin Juba creates modern, functional, and decorative ceramics from his home-studio in the quiet mountainside of Kobe, Japan. This exceptional set of four Round Medium Platters showcases his striking graphic fluid- style, pairing with a robust structural form. The surface depth is defined by the region's highly mineralized mountain water, used to dilute pigment-infused clay into a fluid, liquid slip. Juba paints this slip across the hand-formed walls before dragging a rake-like instrument of bound pine needles through the liquid layer to produce an organic, pattern-like texture.

Every piece is intentionally hand-formed rather than cast, resulting in gentle structural variations where subtle, natural irregularities serve as the true signature of the artist's hand. Fully vitrified and completely food-safe, these elegant 9-inch platters feature a slight one-inch rim, making them exceptionally versatile for serving shared courses on a main tablescape or grand island. When not anchoring a culinary gathering, their painterly abstract walls allow them to function as powerful decorative design objects—whether stacked artfully on a sideboard console, arranged on plate easels, or resting within a minimalist niche to bridge everyday function with high-art presence.

— This Round Medium Platter Set brings a versatile, dual-purpose presence suitable for both everyday functional dining and display. For more on the artist's studio practice, read the full story in the Chariots on Fire Journal.”
