“Alchemist-potter Tenshin Juba creates modern earthenware and stoneware in a highly rhythmic manner from his home-studio in the quiet mountainside of Kobe, Japan, letting the raw sourcing of his materials remain dictated by the natural cycles of his landscape. This commanding Large Sedona Plate pairs his rigorous high-wood firing practice with a rare application of natural organic lacquer, echoing the rich, texturized warmth of deep desert topographies. Tenshin gathers natural raw materials from his immediate terrain—including chestnut husks and mineral-rich rocks—turning them into custom liquid glazes that react dynamically to the unyielding element of fire.
By subjecting his hand-sculpted works to extreme conditions inside the kiln across roughly seven days, Juba orchestrates an elemental metamorphosis of the clay body, fusing glassy pools of ash with raw surfaces.
