“Alchemist-potter Tenshin Juba creates modern earthenware and stoneware in a highly rhythmic manner from his home-studio in the quiet mountainside of Kobe, Japan, letting the raw sourcing of his materials remain dictated by the natural cycles of his landscape. This elegant Oval Dish showcases his high-fire wood kiln experiments, balancing a rare linear geometry with intense, deep blue tones. Tenshin gathers natural raw materials from his immediate landscape—including chestnut husks and mineral-rich rocks—turning them into liquid mineral glazes that react dynamically to the unyielding element of fire.
By subjecting his hand-sculpted works to extreme temperatures reaching 2336°F / 1280°C over roughly seven days of continuous firing, Juba orchestrates a complete chemical metamorphosis of the earthen minerals.
